Invented in 1825 by the French chemist Jean-Pierre-Joseph D’Arcet, the Vichy drop brings to light the main virtues of the thermal waters of the city of Vichy (France), known for its health benefits.
The mineral salts contained in the thermal waters, mainly composed of sodium bicarbonate are extracted, dried, and then crushed before being mixed with sugar and glucose. The resulting mixture is then air-dried, flavored with natural mint, and finally, compressed to give it its famous octagonal shape.
At that time, the Vichy drop was only sold as a drug in pharmacies, but nowadays, it is considered candy with beneficial body attributes.
